STYLE GUIDE FOR SCHOOL COMMUNICATIONS

For all school printed and visual communications.

NAME
  • "Cardinal Stritch High School" is the legal name of the school and should be used on official documents. The school's primary logo (L1 on logo sheet — see below) reinforces the school's legal name.

  • The word "Stritch" should be used sparingly in print and only for variety after leading with Cardinal Stritch High School. At no point should we refer to the institution or ourselves as "Cardinal Stritch."

  • The "Stritch Family" is the acceptable term when referring to friends, students, alumni, parents and others associated with the school. The Cardinal Stritch Family is not acceptable unless you are referring to the direct descendents of Samuel Cardinal Stritch.

  • The official nickname for Cardinal Stritch High School is "Cardinals." "Cards" is an acceptable abbreviated form of the nickname. However, "Cards" should be used sparingly and not appear on official documents or athletic uniforms.

  • All athletic teams, male and female, are to be referred to as "Cardinals." At no point should a particular gender be associated with one team or another. WE ARE ALL CARDINALS.

  • The official abbreviation for Cardinal Stritch High School is "CSHS." Using only "CS" is prohibited.

LOGO
  • There is one primary logo (L1 on the logo sheet) that should be used on most printed pieces. It is the stacked, three line logo that reads: Cardinal Stritch High School with the Cardinal Head to the right of the logo.

  • There are several alternative logos that may be used for specific purposes. The Cardinal Head (l4) or the block "S" (L2) version is preferred for more casual items such as school merchandise, athletic uniforms, and coach's apparel while the official crest with the shield (L3) is reserved for more formal documents such as diplomas, special event invitations, academic transcripts, etc.

  • Use the official crest logo (L3) for the return address on all stationery, mailers, flyers, brochures, catalogs, etc. A logo should appear somewhere on all printed school programs, fliers, posters, booklet covers, etc., to acknowledge and reinforce affiliation with Cardinal Stritch High School.

  • For athletic purposes, the school's Cardinal Head logo (logo L4) or the block "S" (L2) are the only acceptable logos to be used.

FONT
  • The font (typeface) used in the school's primary printed logo is PALATINO LINOTYPE. Whenever possible, use a version of this type when creating a project title, report cover page, mast-head, banner, sign, etc. Palatino is also the typeface used on school letterhead and envelopes. A wide range of fonts can be used for t-shirts and other school merchandise, as long as they receive approval from Timothy Mahoney, Principal prior to printing or production.

MOTTO
  • The school’s motto is "Deus Adjutor Meus" or "God is My Helper." Use it liberally as a tagline in publications, on stationery signs, posters, etc., so that the school continues to be identified with our Catholic roots.

COLOR
  • The school colors are red and black; use them whenever possible. Pantone 185 is the standard and preferred red ink, but similar red inks may be used if 185 does not work well with type particular paper or material chosen. Pantone 116 is the standard and preferred gold ink for the beak.

PROCESS
  • All groups associated with Cardinal Stritch High School planning to print school-related items, please check prospective printed pieces, athletic uniforms, or school-related clothing/gifts for style consistency with Timothy Mahoney, Principal prior to printing or production.

  • Electronic copies of school logos are available for your use (see below).

WEB SITE
  • The Principal has responsibility for the content on the school’s external Web site. Should you need information (of interest to all school constituencies) placed on the Web site, contact Timothy Mahoney, Principal.

  • Teachers' individual web pages that are linked to the school’s Web site should carry the primary logo and follow the type and style specifications established for Web pages.
